Community guidelines
The forum exists to make the next step clearer. Thoughtful, honest and safe help matters more than speed or posting volume.
Be useful and respectful
Address the question rather than attacking the person. Explain assumptions, acknowledge uncertainty and avoid pretending to have credentials or experience you do not have. Harassment, discrimination, threats, impersonation, spam and repeated disruption are not allowed.
Safety comes first
Do not encourage dangerous repairs, unlawful conduct or bypassing qualified professionals where licensing, electrical, gas, structural, medical, fire or other safety concerns are involved. When immediate danger exists, direct people to emergency services or an appropriate licensed professional.
Protect privacy
Never post passwords, recovery codes, payment-card information, government identification, exact private addresses or another person’s personal information. Forum posts are public and may be indexed by search engines.
Profanity masking
Common profanity is automatically replaced with masked characters before a topic or reply is saved. Automated filters are imperfect, so members can report language or behavior that needs staff review.
Helpful ranks
The person who started a topic may mark another member’s reply helpful. Those marks determine community rank: New Helper begins at zero marks, Helpful Geek at 3, Repair Guide at 10, Community Expert at 25 and Geek Hero at 50. Posting quantity, streaks and self-promotion do not increase rank.
Reports and staff moderation
Signed-in members can report a topic or reply for harassment, unsafe advice, spam, profanity, privacy concerns or another reason. Authorized employees and administrators may review reports, hide content, lock or reopen discussions, pin useful topics and restore content after review. Administrators may also suspend or restore a member’s forum posting access. Reporting is confidential within the moderation workflow; misuse of reports may also be reviewed.
Community answers are not official support
Community posts are user-generated discussion, not verified professional advice or a Repair Geek endorsement. Confirm important recommendations independently and hire appropriately licensed and insured professionals when required. Use a Repair Geek support plan when you need service from the support team rather than community discussion.
